Fall is here! While we are still waiting for cooler weather, it’s not too early to get a jump on planning your fall chores. We’ve made a to-do list of things that you should accomplish this fall and in preparation for winter.

·         De-leaf your yard – You can do the typical rake and bag method to keep your yard clean and healthy or you can put your lawn mower in mulching mode to slice leaves small enough to feed your yard. This is healthy for your lawn and also helps protect the environment by cutting down on the usage of plastic bags.

·         Check your roof – If you can see any damage from the ground, you should quickly have this taken care of before it grows into a bigger problem. Have a professional repair any damage and inspect the roof from on top. Some minor roof maintenance can prevent major and costly roof repairs.

·         Clear gutters – Clear all gutters of debris. Things like leaves, pine needles, etc. can clog gutters and cause water to spill over the sides. This water lands near your foundation and can seep into your house. Frozen gutters can also cause damage. Think about investing in a gutter guard to prevent clogs and make sure gutters are clear and drain about 5 feet from your house.

Follow these steps to prevent expensive damage and repairs this fall and winter. If you need more help protecting your home, contact C.T. Lowndes & Company to get a quote on homeowners insurance today!
